Valuing People says that people with learning disabilities should be fully involved in decisions that are important to them. This might mean having a say about your own care, or the services that you use.
We make sure that our service users have the chance to get involved in:
Making sure our information is easy to understand
Checking that our services are very good
Making changes to the service
Choosing the people who work for them
Training the people who work for them
We do this by making sure that people:
Get good information about the service
Can tell us what they think
Can make decisions about what the service will do
Some of the ways we do this are:
Working with service users to make sure that our information is easy to understand
Having a Service User Reference Group so that we can ask service users for their views, and to make decisions
Working with other groups of people with learning disabilities in Leeds
Holding meetings to make sure that everybody has the chance to come and have their say
Using person centred approaches and multi-media profiling to give people control over the care they choose
Involving service users in choosing staff for every part of the service
